Many agencies and experts identify technological innovation as one of the economic growth and sustainable development engines. They also distinguish Patents as the main mean of protecting innovation from third parties and for commercialization. CAF publishes the fourth edition of Indicators of Technological Innovation 2017 in Latin America, based on indicators of industrial property.
The Report is composed of two parts:
Indicators at regional level, comparing the state of technological innovation in Latin America with the regions of Asia, Europe and North America.
Indicators by Country, which show the states of technological innovation in Latin American countries, with reference to South Korea, a country that by 1980 had similar data to the countries of Latin America.
Among the indicators used are, PCT applications, patent applications and concessions in International Offices, high technology exports and royalties received for the use of intellectual property.
