From 9th to 11th September, Madrid (Spain) will play host to the 2025 IAFIE Annual Conference: “Enhancing Intelligence Competences for a New World of Threats” – an internationally event in intelligence and security training.

IAFIE 2025: Shaping the Future of Intelligence and Security Training

The European Chapter of the International Association for Intelligence Education (IAFIE EC), in collaboration with IAFIE, presents this annual conference under the banner “Enhancing Intelligence Competences for a New World of Threats”. This event aims to elevate the standards of intelligence education and training amidst an era marked by geopolitical tensions, rampant disinformation, and rapid technological evolution.

The conference aspires to advance the professionalisation of intelligence education by championing an integrated framework of competences capable of addressing both current and emerging challenges. Its key objectives include:

  • Establishing a comprehensive framework of intelligence competences.
  • Adapting and modernising training curricula for professionals and stakeholders.
  • Integrating digital transformation and technological advancements into educational and professional development pathways.
  • Fostering international collaboration and the exchange of expertise between academics and industry practitioners.

The Technological Observatory at the University of Alicante is contributing experiences such as #InteligenciaUA, its specialisation programme in strategic intelligence for innovative organisations.

How to Get Involved: Call for Papers

The 2025 IAFIE call invites academics, researchers, and professionals from diverse fields – including intelligence, security, strategic studies, defence, cyber security, emergency management, international relations, and communications – to participate.

Submissions can be made in various formats:

  • Panels: Comprising 3 to 5 papers, each submission should include a title (up to 50 words), an abstract (up to 200 words), a moderator, and a discussant.
  • Roundtable Discussions: Designed to spark debate, these proposals require a title (up to 50 words), an abstract (up to 200 words), and participation from 4 to 5 experts.
  • Papers: Individual submissions that will be grouped into panels, each featuring a title (up to 50 words), an abstract (up to 200 words), and at least one author.
  • Posters: Interactive sessions where authors present their work, adhering to similar requirements as standard papers.

Key Dates:

  • Submission of abstracts: Up to 2nd April 2025
  • Notification of acceptance: 30th April 2025
  • Submission of papers and presentations: 28th June 2025
  • Registration opens: From March 2025
